TIS AWARD

The Technology and Information Systems (TIS) Team, led by Chief Information Architect Gerald Segal, was the recipient of an award from Computerworld, “the most trusted source for the critical information needs of senior IT management.” The award honors organizations that have “applied exemplary storage solutions to provide strategic advantage to their enterprise.”

To meet the ongoing demand by Psychiatric Institute (PI) researchers for a device equipped to handle large quantities of data, TIS developed a unique method for transmitting medical images throughout the Institute using Storage Area Technology. A Storage Area Network (SAN) has tremendous storage capacity and is primarily used for its backup capabilities at medical centers. Dr. John Mann, Director of Neuroscience at PI, and an investigator who has benefited from SAN, sees the implementation of the technology as crucial to the viability of the important research conducted at the Institute.

The PI team, which also included Chandresh Shah (TIS Network Manager) and Joseph Grun (a Department of Neuroscience information technology manager), received recognition for its achievement during a special awards ceremony at Storage Networking World in Florida in October 2004. Other winners included MetLife and Sports Illustrated. Storage Networking World is a conference co-owned by Computerworld.
